No, not unless the algorithms are made public.
Private algorithms which couldn't be evaluated in the public domain, made the BCS garbage IMO. At least under the current system, we know whose opinions and biases make the choice and I think the system has worked well.
Under the current playoff system, we argue about the 4th and 5th place teams. If we moved to an 8 team playoff, we would argue about the 8th and 9th place teams. But what we've seen on the field is that the lower ranked teams don't win it.
I like including algorithms in the selection process, as long as they are open to public evaluation and scrutiny. But they will never include every factor that should be included... it takes humans to do that.
